Binance, the world's largest cryptocurrency exchange, has received a crypto license in Cyprus. The license allows Binance to operate in the country as a "Virtual Asset Service Provider" (VASP).
Binance has similar registrations in France, Spain and Italy.
"Binance has some of the most thorough AML and CTF compliance policies in the industry," Binance CEO Changpeng Zhao said in a blog post. "Recognition of the efforts we have made to be on the leading edge of compliance that our registration in Cyprus represents is testament to that."
The Cyprus Securities and Exchange Commission (CySEC) said in a statement that it had granted Binance the license after "a thorough review of its AML/CTF policies, procedures and controls."
CySEC said that Binance had met all of the requirements for the license, including having a robust AML/CTF program in place.
The license allows Binance to offer a range of crypto services to customers in Cyprus, including trading, custody and lending.
Binance's move to obtain a license in Cyprus is a sign that the company is committed to complying with regulations in the jurisdictions where it operates.
