**Mintable to auction physical painting by Russian-French artist Baranoff-Rossiné as NFT**
Mintable, a non-fungible token (NFT) marketplace, will auction a physical painting by Russian-French artist Baranoff-Rossiné as an NFT.
The artwork, “Composition,” is signed by the artist and will be sold in its original frame. It will also come with an NFT certificate that digitally verifies the artwork’s provenance and authenticity using Humo blockchain technology.
Additional sales, which will be solely digital NFT representations of Baranoff-Rossiné’s works, will be conducted via three auctions and six limited edition sales beginning February 25.
Mintable CEO Zach Burks told CoinDesk via email that the artist’s grandson had reached out to Mintable a few months ago seeking to use NFTs as a means to digitize the family legacy.
“We were honored to be chosen to work with the Baranoff-Rossiné family on this project,” Burks said. “Baranoff-Rossiné was a pioneering artist whose work has been largely forgotten, and we believe that NFTs can help to bring his work to a new audience.”
Baranoff-Rossiné was a Ukrainian, Russian and French painter, sculptor and inventor. He was part of the Cubo-Futurism movement before being sent to the Auschwitz concentration camp by the Nazis because of his Jewish background. He died in 1944.
