**ASX, Digital Asset Partner to Develop DLT-Based Trading Platform**
The Australian Securities Exchange (ASX) and Digital Asset have partnered to develop a distributed ledger technology (DLT)-based trading platform.
The new platform, which is expected to be operational by Spring 2021, will replace the ASX's current clearing and settlement system, known as CHESS.
ASX Deputy CEO Peter Hiom said in a statement that the partnership with Digital Asset will help the exchange expand its product offerings and service locations across Australia and New Zealand.
"This new partnership is a very positive development that will help us support a wider range of DLT solutions developed by the industry," Hiom said. "It confirms our belief in the potential of DLT and we remain on track to deliver the CHESS replacement system in March-2021."
ASX is also using Digital Asset's open-source, blockchain-focused language, DAML, for the project.
ASX's current platform handles some A$2 trillion in registered equities along with A$5 billion processed per day.
