**Australian Senate Committee Rejects Crypto Custody Bill**
The Australian Senate Committee has rejected the Cryptocurrency Custody Bill, saying that the bill lacked detail and certainty and was at odds with the government's approach.
The bill was "not congruent with international regimes" and caused "genuine concern for regulatory arbitrage and adverse outcomes to the industry," the committee said.
The committee also noted that the bill was "not supported by the Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC) or the Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA)."
The RBA started a pilot test to explore potential use cases for Australia's own CBDC and last month concluded that "any decision on a CBDC in Australia is likely to be some years away."
