**Bitcoin Political Action Committee Sends Paper Wallet Donations to Six US Lawmakers**
A political action committee (PAC) that supports the use of Bitcoin in political campaigns has sent paper wallets containing $250 in Bitcoin to six US lawmakers.
The donations were sent to Republican Sens. Ted Cruz of Texas and Ron Wyden of Oregon, Democratic Reps. Jeb Hensarling of Texas and Maxine Waters of California, and Democratic Sens. Mark Warner of Virginia and Jared Polis of Colorado.
The Bitcoin PAC, which is called BitPAC, was founded by Dan Backer, an attorney who has been involved in several legal cases related to Bitcoin.
In May, the Federal Election Commission (FEC) issued a report advising that political campaigns and action committees could accept Bitcoin donations.
However, Backer said that the FEC's guidance was not enough.
"The FEC's guidance [only] created a safe harbor of permissible activity," he said.
Backer told CoinDesk that the Bitcoin PAC's donations are meant to put pressure on the FEC to provide more guidance on the use of Bitcoin in political fundraising.
"Certainly it keeps the issue at the forefront as the FEC considers this," he said.
He added that while some of the lawmakers who received the Bitcoin donations may not be familiar with the cryptocurrency, they are unlikely to turn down a campaign donation.
