A new survey by The Harris Poll found that most Americans support regulation of cryptocurrencies, but they want the rules to be clear and focused on protecting consumers.
The survey, which was conducted online from June 6-11, polled 2,029 adults in the United States.
The results showed that 79% of respondents believe that cryptocurrencies should be regulated, while 84% said they believe in traditional investment tools such as stocks and bonds.
However, 51% of respondents said they believe in cryptocurrencies, which is slightly higher than the 49% who said they believe in the government.
More than half of respondents (53%) said they believe that cryptocurrencies are the future of the financial system, and they would feel more secure if the government made more clear regulations.
In addition, about 1 in 5 respondents said they own Bitcoin, Ethereum, Dogecoin, or USDC as a store of value or for investment, while 6% said they own NFTs.
The survey results come as US lawmakers are still debating the details of a proposed cryptocurrency regulatory framework.
