Two bills introduced in Congress would give the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) greater authority over cryptocurrency regulation.
The bills, which were introduced by Rep. Darren Soto (D-Fla.) and Rep. Tom Emmer (R-Minn.), would direct the CFTC to work with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) to produce a report on the potential for cryptocurrency price manipulation.
The bills would also direct the CFTC to issue guidance on cryptocurrency regulation and to recommend legislative changes if necessary.
This is the third iteration of the two bills, which were first proposed in 2018.
