A new survey has found that one in six Australians (17%) currently own cryptocurrencies, with a total holding value of up to $8 billion.
The survey, conducted by Finder, polled 1,000 Australians and found that Bitcoin was the most popular cryptocurrency, with 9% of respondents saying they owned it. Ethereum was the second most popular, with 8% of respondents saying they owned it.
The survey also found that men were more likely to own cryptocurrencies than women (23% vs 11%). However, the trend over time is supporting women, with the percentage of women owning cryptocurrencies increased from 7% in January, while the percentage of men has decreased from 29% to 23%.
Among those who own cryptocurrencies, the largest sharing rate they do to diversify the portfolio (30%). A quarter (24%) of Australians said they bought cryptocurrencies simply "because it is increasing". This figure has decreased from 45% in January.
About half of the respondents are not interested in cryptocurrencies, with the answer that "I have no intention of investing in cryptocurrencies", while 32% pointed out that they "would rather buy stocks or send saving money".
